The crow in the film, the bird in the film; you could really look at as a guide... Almost a piece of his own personality tha guides him back into his life and reminds him of who he was, what happened to him.
This is a person who has been pushed right to the limits of his ability to cope what is going on. And in a sense is quite mad sometimes... In a sense completely insane, almost in a sense that you might thinf of an insane person having voices. More rational voices that try to guide him... More irrational voices that come from a more emotional... More deep-seated place. I think that the crow his that rational voice, the crow is his guide.
The crow helps Eric to do what he has to do in a very pratical sense; it leads him to places where he has to be, it helps him find people he has to find.
It's a story about justice for victims.
His mission is to find the people who killed himself and his fiancée, and kill them.
Its a wonderful role, it really es a role tha you can take risks with, and gives you a wonderful opportunity to take those risks and stretch, because after all can you tell me how someone who has come back from the dead is going to behave,
That is one of the wonderful things about playing this character, its a real... you can really take the gloves off in playing this part because there are no rules on how has come back from the dead is going to behave.
There is a part of him that is filled with rage towards what was done to him. And another of the things that I like about this movie is that all the parts of the character are given balance on the screen. He is torn up really badly, both phisically and psychically. I think the appeal of Eric's mission is that it is a very pure one. He has come back to seek justice.
I have done other films that have had violence in them, but I have never done anything where I felt that the violence was as justified as this. There is very little need to worry about compassion for his victims.
This is justice, and I truly feel that it is, and I truly feel if I was in the same situation I would do the same thing. It is something that he has to do, and he is forced to put aside his own pain long enough to do what he has to.
Because we do not know when we will die, we get think of life as an inexhaustible well and yet everything happens only a certain number of times, a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood? An afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you cannot conceive of you life without it? Perhaps 4... 5 times more. Perhaps not even that.
How many more times will you watch the full moon rise... Perhaps twenty and yet it all seems limitless.
This is the point of views this character is coming from in the whole film, because it has brought sharply into focus how precious each moment of his life was.
This is the best role I have had the opportunity to get my hands on.

Non so se fosse destino che interpretassi questo ruolo ma mi ritengo fortunato ad averlo fatto.
Il corvo, l'uccello che si vede nel film può essere considerato come una guida, quasi una parte della personalità di Eric che lo riaccompagna nella sua vita per ricordargli chi era e che cosa gli è capitato." "Eric è un personaggio che è spinto al limite delle sue capacità per far fronte a ciò che gli succede, in un certo senso è un pazzo, a volte è completamente folle, così come si può giudicare un folle una persona che sente delle voci, delle voci razionali che vogliono guidarla e delle voci irrazionali che provengono da un livello più emotivo, da un livello più profondo. Secondo me il Corvo è la voce razionale, il corvo è la sua guida, il corvo aiuta Eric a fare ciò che deve fare in maniera molto pratica, lo aiuta ad arrivare nei posti che deve raggiungere, lo aiuta a trovare le persone che deve trovare.E' una storia che parla della giustizia per le vittime, la sua missione è di trovare gli uomini che hanno ucciso lui e la sua fidanzata per vendicarsi.
E' un ruolo fantastico ed è un ruolo che comporta dei rischi per chi lo interpreta, ti dà l'occasione di rischiare e di metterti alla prova perchè nessuno sa come si comporta una persona che torna dall'aldilà. Una delle cose più belle dell'interpretare questo ruolo è che è veramente un continuo lottare, fare a pugni con il personaggio stesso, perchè non esistono regole che indicano come si deve comportare un attore che interpreta un personaggio che torna dal mondo dei morti.
C'è una parte di Eric che è piena di rabbia, rabbia per quello che ha subito, ma una delle cose che più mi piacciono in questo film è l'equilibrio con cui tutti i vari aspetti del carattere del protagonista vengono trattati. E' un uomo tormentato, un uomo straziato nelle emozioni, nel fisico e nella mente.
Credo che il fascino del personaggio stia nella purezza che caratterizza la sua missione: Eric è tornato per rivendicare giustizia. Ho lavorato in altri film dove c'era della violenza, ma devo dire che mai come in questo ho pensato che la violenza fosse giustificata, è un film che lascia poco spazio alla pietà. Questa è giustizia, ne sono assolutamente convinto, come sono convinto che se fossi io in quella situazione mi comporterei esattamente nello stesso modo.
Eric ha un compito da assolvere e si vede costretto ad ignorare il suo dolore per portare a termine la sua missione.
Nel film vedo un concetto di equilibrio tra il bene e il male. Siccome non sappiamo quando moriremo siamo portati a pensare alla vita come ad un pozzo inesauribile, eppure ogni singolo fatto accade solo per un certo numero di volte, e spesso si tratta di un numero limitato: quante volte ci ricordiamo di un certo pomeriggio della nostra infanzia, un pomeriggio che fa così profondamente parte del nostro essere, senza il quale non riusciremmo nemmeno a concepire la nostra esistenza, forse quattro, cinque volte, forse anche di meno. Quante volte vediamo sorgere la luna piena, forse venti, eppure tutto ci sembra senza limite. "Le piccole cose per Shelly contavano così tanto, io le giudicavo insignificanti ma, credimi, niente è insignificante " : è questo il punto di vista che adotta il personaggio per tutta la durata del film, poiché si rende perfettamente conto di quanto sia importante ogni istante della sua nuova vita.
E' il ruolo più bello che abbia mai avuto occasione di interpretare.
